I finally got a chance to start Michelle Herman's heartfelt memoir The Middle of Everything which explores what it means to be both a mother and a daughter. The story of Herman's Brooklyn childhood is juxtaposed with the present, where the author struggles to be the "perfect" mother to her precocious daughter Grace. Her musings on love and life ring true and manage to engage even if, like me, you're not a mom yourself. I'll have to finish it quickly because my best friend Nicki, who does happen to be the mother of one adorable toddler, is anxious to get her hands on it next.
